2018: The Year To Focus On You

The New Year is a time for fresh starts, good intentions and compiling a list of resolutions. Often resolutions involve giving something up, or swearing off things, but I enjoy life’s little pleasures too much. So, this year I decided I would make but one promise to myself and that was to focus on me. Whether it be my health, my body and mind, my personal life, or my general self care, this year is about taking care of myself because life is just too darn short. So, I intend to start the year as I mean to go on, and here’s what I’m focusing on in January…

My Skin

The stresses of moving into a new house coupled with Christmas, the horrible weather and, not to mention, a few tins of chocolates, has left my skin dehydrated, flaky and spotty. Luckily, I received the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser 100ml Starter Kit for Christmas and although I need to give it a couple more weeks, I’m already seeing results. It’s creamy, filled with essential oils and soothing ingredients, and it comes with two muslin clothes – the perfect starter kit.

My Happy Place

It’s been seven months since I moved into my first home and it’s my mission this January to kick-start the decorating. Now, the majority of the painting is done, so this month I intend to look for more homely items such as pictures, pillows, throws, mirrors etc to put the finishing touches to my house.

My Diet

This year I want to focus more on the food I’m eating and what I’m putting into my body. I wouldn’t say I’m going on a diet, but I just want to make better choices. I know this month is #veganuary, so I thought I would cut back on meat and dairy. I wouldn’t say I was a professional cook, so for inspiration I’m turning to Feed Me Vegan by Lucy Watson. This book is filled with dishes and I’ve personally heard some terrific reviews. Since I know I don’t get all the vitamins I need from food, I wanted to start taking some vitamins too. Nothing too extreme just multivitamins once a day, and right now is the perfect time to stock up as Holland & Barrett are hosting its iconic penny sale.

My Physical & Mental Health

After a little too much overindulging at Christmas I want to get back into a fitness routine that I can maintain. Now, I do want to lose a little weight and tone up, but I’m in no rush. Instead of bashing the gym and burning myself out and giving up, I want to mix it up by trying out weights, classes and cardio until I find a routine that I’m happy with. Not only do I find exercise brilliant for my body, but I find it great for the mind too. There’s nothing like running on the treadmill or squatting heavy weights to clear the mind of all its stresses. Plus, I can kick-start the unwinding with a little retail therapy to stock up on some new (and much-needed) gym wear.
